I know that Edelweiss Patterns has designs based on many old Hollywood fashion, and their most popular design is one based on the Charmian Carr dancing dress.

Great to see the Charmian Carr dancing dress from Sound of Music on the list. That is such an amazing dress! I’m also a big fan of Elizabeth Taylor’s white party dress from Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and all of Grace Kelly’s dresses from Rear Window!

Great article!

I will admit I'm trying to figure out whether your comment about her being 16 going on 17 was simply quoting the lyrics, or if there may have been perhaps of tinge of sarcasm in your writing.

Even as a youngster I couldn't understand why the oldest kid was an adult, and wasn't surprised to find out years later she was in her 20s when she played a sixteen-year old. Usually, when an adult plays the role of someone much younger they actually look the age of the character they're playing (think Ralph Macchio or Michael J Fox, for example). However, Charmain Carr was an adult who looked like an adult and carried herself like an adult. At no point did she look or act like she was only 16!

Great movie though, and thanks for sharing your insights about her dress. I guess I never consciously put much thought into her dress.
